Tourism

The commercial potency of tourism connects it intimately with a wide range of other industries and sub-sectors, giving it a unique power to create positive social and economic impact. Recognising this, the BLCF allocated nearly a quarter of its total funds to this sector, and the rewards are being reaped in far-ranging ways all over the world. Unlocking value for poor communities meant understanding the many linkages to other economic sectors such as crafts, transport and agriculture. The supported projects therefore have a variety of linkages with the various subsectors including tourism certification, community-based tourism, tourism and the agricultural sector, pro-poor tourism initiatives, capacity building and tourism marketing.
